Project to conduct borehole feasibility and siting assessments at over 900 schools
This project supplements larger, government driven, sanitation and water supply programs, the aim of which is to supply each identified school with water for domestic and sanitation purposes. Schools were categorised by feasibility on a desktop level assessment based on the underlying geology, hydrogeology, topography, hydrocensus data regarding water levels and known yields and water quality. Geophysical surveys, using a Proton Magnetometer and Electrical Resistivity Tomography Survey equipment, were then conducted at each school. The data collected from these surveys and site visits, as well as the desktop feasibility rating assessment designed for this project, were used to site boreholes at each school, where feasible. Recommendations for water treatment or fixing broken pump systems on existing boreholes were also provided to the client for each school.
