GCS is pleased to announce that Adam Gunn has joined the company as Chief Operating Officer and Environmental Director, responsible for group operations, finance, HR and administration. Former Managing Director, Andrew Johnstone, assumes the position of Chief Executive Officer with responsibility for the GCS Group.

Adam is a practicing environmental, mining and commercial attorney, and has more than 20 years of experience in the mining, environmental and commercial sectors. He has a BCom, LLB and LLM in advanced company law, environmental and water law, and mining and prospecting law.

His previous mining experience includes being the legal advisor to Ridge Mining (now part of Aquarius Platinum) and First Uranium (Mine Waste Solutions) which is now part of AngloGold Ashanti.  He was previously a partner at Edward Nathan Sonnenberg (ENS) and Eversheds (now Hogan Lovells) At both firms he specialised in mining, environmental and resources law, focusing in particular on the water and energy sectors.

In 2014 he founded Gunn Attorneys, a niche firm specialising in the provision of mining, commercial and environmental legal law.

In addition to his professional responsibilities, Adam provides legal advice to for Birdlife SA Advocacy Programme and Symphonia. The latter is a NGO dedicated to the upliftment of education in South Africa. He is also a member of the Endangered Wildlife Trust’s Ethics Committee.

Andrew Johnstone, GCS Chief Executive Officer, says, “Adam brings a wealth of experience to GCS with regard to environmental, water and mining legislation. In his new role as CEO, Andrew will be responsible for marketing and sales initiatives, the launch of new products and services, client engagement, and mergers and acquisitions. In addition, he will have overall responsibility for creating, planning, implementing and integrating the strategic direction of the GCS Group and will chair the board of directors
